'A Critical Analysis of the Complex, Commonly Misunderstood Issues of Cuckooing'

Thursday 14 October and Friday 9 December

9.30-12.30

Overview for the Masterclass:

Despite links with serious organised crime, “cuckooing” is not widely understood or discussed. Despite links to County Lines methods of drug supply, Cuckooing has remained an area of mystique – not attracting the same level of academic scrutiny or critical enquiry that other forms of criminal activity and exploitation has. This means that cuckooing and exploitation is happening in our cities, towns and communities in plain sight. To tackle this issue, it is crucial to raise awareness and increase understanding of this complex issue.

Learning Outcomes

  • Have a greater understanding of cuckooing and be able to recognise the complexity and variance associated with this issue by understanding the typologies of cuckooing.
  • Recognise and understand the links between cuckooing and Serious Organised Crime, in particular County Lines methods of drug supply.
  • Have an understanding why cuckooing should be considered in the context of Child Protection.
  • Recognise the impact that Covid-19 has had on driving adaptation and changes in cuckooing activity.
