For professionals responsible for assessing and working with families following referral or later when more specialist assessment of family relationship difficulties is required.  The course is designed to enable professionals to develop their skills in using The Family Assessment, a systemic model for making assessments and use a model of analysis and planning interventions and outcomes using the Assessment Framework.

Participants will receive The Family Assessment guide (Bentovim and Bingley Miller, 2001) and a licence to use it in their work with children and families.

Trainers for this event are: Carol Jolliffe and Fiona Gren: 

Carol Jolliffe has worked for Child and Family Training since 2000 and is accredited as a trainer for the range of assessment and intervention tools. She has trained for Child and Family Training in a range of social care and health settings in UK, Ireland, Egypt, Cyprus, Sweden, Germany and Hong Kong and is currently involved in developing their family work focused training courses.

Carol has worked with children and families in social work and children’s mental health services since 1979. She qualified as a social worker in 1986 and has worked as a practitioner and manager in children’s residential and community settings, including a duty and assessment service and a national therapeutic residential resource. Carol additionally trained as a family therapist (and is also a qualified systemic supervisor) as part of her move to children’s mental health services. She now works as a consultant systemic psychotherapist and as clinical lead for family therapy in an NHS Trust. She has a private clinical practice, offering family therapy and assessments for prospective adopters and foster carers. She teaches on family therapy and clinical psychology training courses for the Tavistock Centre and Canterbury Christchurch University.

Fiona Gren has been a practising social worker in adult and children’s services since 1979. She is also a qualified teacher and person-centred counsellor. Fiona is currently a part time social work team leader in a multi-disciplinary team of social workers, teachers, therapists and family workers, working directly with schools and families where pupils are exhibiting social, emotional and behavioural difficulties. She works alongside CAMHS and the child protection teams.

Fiona has worked in the parenting field for many years. She supervises trainers on several different parenting programmes. Fiona is also an independent trainer and consultant, working for Local Authorities and the independent and private sectors. She was a foster carer for 10 years. Fiona is a trainer for Child and Family Training.

There are two other locations for this event: Tuesday 18th February in London and Thursday 24th September in Birmingham  and two other courses as part of the AoCPP and Child and Family Training series:

• The Safeguarding Children Assessment and Analysis Framework (SAAF)
