The AoCPP’s Lunch and Learn
'Evaluation of the Multi-Agency Child Safeguarding Reforms (MACS Evaluation)'
13th July 2023 - 12.00pm - 1.30pm
Speakers: Dr Jenny Driscoll & Dr Ann Lorek
Summary:
In response to the Wood review in 2016, Local Safeguarding Children Boards were replaced by Local Safeguarding Children Partnerships (LSCPs). The Children and Social Work Act 2017 established tripartite responsibility for local safeguarding arrangements between the local authority, health services (now represented by the Integrated Care Board), and the police, who are required to work with ‘relevant partners’, including in education and the voluntary sector. Academics from King’s College London and the University of Bedfordshire are undertaking research commissioned by the Department for Health & Social Care to evaluate the effectiveness of LSCPs and to propose measures for ongoing monitoring and evaluation of the impact of the reforms. AoCPP are collaborating in the project to ensure that practitioners’ experiences and needs are represented in the research and the resulting evaluation framework is meaningful and constructive for professionals.
In this session Jenny and Ann will introduce the project and describe findings from the first stage literature review on the effectiveness of multi-agency safeguarding arrangements and the impact of COVID-19 on those arrangements. They will describe early progress towards an outcomes framework and seek feedback from attendees through discussion of what makes for effective multi-agency safeguarding arrangements and how can we measure that.
