Areas of exploration within this meeting:
Having set the context for racial disproportionalities in child protection and anti-racist practice in the first two SIG meetings, this SIG session will provide an open platform for discussion and debate. Adhering to a key principal in the SIG Terms of Reference, this meeting will facilitate a space for critical reflection about organisational practice and encourage thinking about how we can promote positive practice. The centrepiece for the meeting will be a presentation by Millie Kerr, the Strategic Anti-Racist Lead for Brighton and Hove, leading to discussions and the sharing of best practice. There will also be time to reflect on the recent race riots, the continuing anti-immigration and discriminatory discourses that continue to exist, and the impact that this can have on child protection work with vulnerable children and families.
