Digital Voice specialise in amplifying the voices of marginalised people in an anonymous way to ensure their identities aren’t compromised while they have their opportunity to speak truth to power.Our methodology is multi-award winning and has led to many examples of change affected as a result of presenting the videos we co-produce with people about the changes they need to see in systems and society.
This session aims to understand how the communities they support can have a say on issues that affect them, while ensuring their safety.
This session is aimed at those working with children as well as marginalised groups.

Dr Sarah Carlick started her professional career as a social worker and a probation officer, gaining experience in the public, private and voluntary sectors in the UK, USA, Canada and Australia. The Director of MeSafe supporting organisations to develop a strategic approach to Digital Safeguarding that promotes co-design with children and young people. She was the founder of a Safeguarding Training and Consultancy company for 19 years.
The focus of academic research is on co-producing new ways of working at the front door of child protection to extend the current socio-technical framework to improve outcomes for children. Including developments in child protection and early help, smart phone apps relating to managing risk and safeguarding.
Sarah is also Chair of the Digital Safeguarding Special Interest Group at the AoCPP https://www.childprotectionprofessionals.org.uk/special-interest-groups/
She is an international speaker, panel judge, published author, a visiting university lecturer and associate researcher.
Julie Nicholson is founding co-director and Managing Director of Digital Voice for Communities. She set up the organisation in 2007.
She is an award-winning filmmaker and has worked since 2001 as a facilitator of film and digital media projects in a range of settings.
She has also worked as a housing adviser at Citizen’s Advice, a TEFL teacher and youth and community worker which have helped her understand the importance of skills development and giving a voice to the most vulnerable.
