Care and protection are often portrayed as steadily improving decade by decade and century by century, but has this actually been the case? To what extent have our values and practices changed in relation to what it means to be child centred? Have we moved closer to centring children’s voices within our systems of care and protection?

Bring your insights and experiences from the field to a discussion in which we reflect on the past and examine the present, chaired by historians of child welfare, Dr Ruth Beecher and Dr Claudia Soares.

Whether you are a newly qualified practitioner or someone who has practised for many years, whether you have worked in statutory services or in outreach and early help, come along to remember and preserve the histories of children and families and those who work to support them. Everyone’s story matters.

The session will be a mixture of presentation, discussion, and Q&A.
