Research suggests that many child protection professionals will encounter people impacted by ritual abuse and other forms of organised extreme child abuse. Yet despite the enormous complexities, practitioners have had few resources to support them in identifying this abuse and safeguarding children and families.
In this online seminar, Dr Elly Hanson will share the key insights of her report Organised ritual abuse and its wider context: Degradation, deception and disavowal, recently published by the National Police Chiefs Council and NAPAC (the National Association for People Abused in Childhood). She will unpack the dynamics, perpetrator psychology, and impact of this abuse; how a culture of disbelief developed to largely hide it from view; and what the implications of all this are for professional practice.
