The Association of Child Protection Professionals stand in solidarity with the people of Ukraine and urge the UK Government to do all in its power to end this illegal war whilst offering support and welcome to those children and families who are being displaced by the crisis.
We at the Association of Child Protection Professionals are horrified and appalled by the humanitarian crisis taking place in Ukraine and Eastern Europe. Rather than going to school, playing in parks, and attending birthday parties, millions of Ukrainian children continue to join their parents and carers in bomb shelters, or else are having to flee their homes in fear for their lives. This is unacceptable. We absolutely condemn the indiscriminate use of violence against children and their families in Ukraine, epitomised by the bombing of residential homes, schools and hospitals. We call for a cessation to these acts of aggression.
Children are our future; their innocence and joy should be preserved and cherished, and they should not have to endure violence or aggression of any form. Indeed, we recognise the long-term impact that this crisis will have on all children, but particularly those in Ukraine. They will need our support for many years to come. On this basis, we call on the UK Government to do more to help the refugees fleeing Ukraine.
We also recognise the added safeguarding concerns that the illegal war will bring, with the potential for displaced children and their families to be exploited and abused by those who seek to take advantage of their increased vulnerability. Therefore, we ask for vital help to be given to those supporting the refugees, so that they can remain diligent in the task of child protection.
We encourage all our members to take an active voice in condemning this illegal war and in raising concerns about its impact on children within Ukraine and around the world.
To the Ukrainian people, we express our absolute solidarity with you in this time of need. We see you and recognise your plight. You are not alone but remain in our thoughts and are central to the actions that we will continue to take to support you and your children.
Slava Ukraini!
Слава Україні!
